The leader of the Sadr Movement, Muqtada Sadr, has denied withdrawing from the political process under Iranian pressure.

Sadr said in a statement that Iran had not put any pressure on any Iraqi Shiite party and reports that the reason for his withdrawal from the political process was Iranian threats are false.

Sadr did not hide his disapproval of his rivals and said that some parties called the Iranian wing that violated the Iraqi supreme court work in their own interests and tried to pressure other political parties, the independents and non-Shiite parties.

He added that he had the courage to withdraw from participating in destroying what remains of Iraq. Sadr called on political parties to take a courageous stance to reform and save the country.

On June 13, 75 Sadrist lawmakers collectively resigned from the Iraqi council of representatives. Sadr said his move was to help the formation of the next government. Negotiations on forming the next government have halted after rounds of nationwide talks between the political parties.
