UN mission in Iraq promises to help Iraq fight corruption.

Iraqi Prime Minister Press Office said in a statement, "The Prime Minister, Mr. Muhammad Shi'a al-Sudani, received today, Wednesday, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Mrs. Jeanine Plasschaert and her accompanying delegation, and the PM and UN envoy discussed the efforts of the current government in promoting stability." The UN Mission Chief Plasschaert has been active in bringing public attention to Iraq's pressing issues.

"The meeting witnessed a review of the government's plans to address problems of the internally displaced Iraqis, by securing their return to their areas after providing them with a decent life and security," the statement read. The newly formed Al-Sudani cabinet is working to tackle imperative issues facing the crisis-hit country.

The statement indicated that Al-Sudani "reported to the government's efforts to combat corruption through measures taken by the Prime Minister, and it will be the first starting point for work in state institutions for the current stage."

The statement added that the envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations "has offered assistance through the United Nations programs to provide training and logistical support, and referred to the efforts of the Sudanese government and its seriousness in combating corruption and its emphasis on curbing its practices."

Corruptions in Iraq feed into instability and insecurity as Baghdad struggles to assert control over many regions under its jurisdiction. A recent grand-scale corruption involving the disappearance of 2.5 billion US Dollars revealed the country's corruption scale. Transparency International's corruption perceptions index usually places Iraq at the top of the list of the most corrupt government in the world.
